Wild Patch Microgreens

Wild Patch Microgreens

Meet Tom and Mary, the owners of Wild Patch Microgreens!

Wild Patch Microgreens started growing microgreens a few years ago but officially launched the business in April of 2022. They grow and sell microgreens, edible flowers, and some baby greens primarily to chefs and restaurants. They also sell to a number of markets and farmers markets locally. Tom and Mary learned about the lack of nutrition in most of the commercially food grown today and wanted to do their part to provide a better option for themselves and others in our local community.

What is your business? What is it to you?

We grow and sell microgreens, edible flowers and some baby greens primarily to chefs and restaurants. We also sell to a number of markets and farmers markets locally. To us it is our way of helping to strengthen our community and keep food close to where it was grown (instead of individuals and chefs buying these items from across the country)

Who works with you?

Is it a family affair or a solo labor of love? Owned and operated by Tom and Mary, with support from a few part-time workers. Security is headed by our loving pup, Jazzy. Friends and family have also been very supportive and helpful as we started this venture.

What is something that surprised you about starting your business?

The amount of decision making! You have to take off the critical thinking cap sometimes and just go for it to keep things moving. Overthinking can cause a real hold up.

What is the your favorite thing that you sell?

The edible flowers always make people so happy, it's hard not to love that.

Why did you decide to sell at Geauga Fresh?

We had heard great things about the Geauga Fresh community and the winter market gave us an opportunity to try it out in a down time of year for us.

Is there are anything new in the works that we have to look forward to?

We are always trying out new microgreens (right now working on Celery for our seasonal Stuffing Patch!) and also hoping to expand our edible flower offerings. We plan to grow our team so that we can reach a wider radius of restaurants and farmers markets in the greater Cleveland area.

Any tips for growing/gardening at home?

Good soil is everything. Flavor, color and nutrition are a direct result of your inputs. Also, expect to have some failures. With so many variables to growing, experimenting and refining are all apart of the process.

Tell us a fun fact/hobby/something you do outside of work.

We live and work year round on a Christmas Tree Farm and absolutely love it! Come see us this winter at Sugar Pines Farm, we offer the most beautiful trees in the field to cut yourself, as well as premium pre-cut trees, live balled trees, wreaths, roping, etc.

Anything else you'd like to share.

Shopping at the farmers market truly makes an impact in your community. Spending your dollars on food that is produced by mindful, local growers and farmers makes all the difference in the world to them AND your health.
